ABEOKUTA – A former governorship Aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State, Hon. Adekunle AbdulKabir Akinlade on Friday officially defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Akinlade defection finally laid to rest months of speculation of the possibility of his defection to another party after losing out from the APC governorship primary against Governor Dapo Abiodun.

Triple A as fondly called arrived the PDP secretariat at Oke-Mosan under heavy rain with the party’s governorship Candidate, Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu.

He was accompanied by former Deputy Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Hon. Tola Banjo, former aide to Governor Ibikunle Amosun, Hon. Rotimi Rahmon and other ex-government appointees.

The Gubernatorial Candidate of Peoples Democractic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, Hon. Ladi Adebutu alongside the Sikirulah Ogundele-led State Working Executive of the party received Akinlade into the folds of the party.

Speculation miffed during the week that, the PDP had offered the former governorship candidate of Allied People’s Movement (APM) in 2019 general elections the Deputy-Governorship slot in order to form a formidable team with Hon. Ladi Adebutu structure.

Party leaders and hundreds of party faithful defied the rain to welcome Hon. Adekunle Akinlade and his loyalists into the largest and most ideological political party in Africa – Peoples Democratic Party.

Hon. Ladi Adebutu and Hon. Adekunle Akinlade are long-time allies, who both served at the green chamber from the state in the eighth legislative assembly.

As at the time of filing this report, both Akinlade and Adebutu are yet to address members of the party and journalists, as they were in a closed-door meeting since 1:18 pm they arrived at the party secretariat.
