People will attack Muslims and their symbols of worship. At any slight opportunity, they find a way to give Muslims and Islam bad names. They are hellbent on causing religious disharmony in Nigeria. Yet, they will turn around and say Muslims are intolerant.
An Associate Professor at the University of Lagos, Kadiri Akeem, was accused of rape. Fine, the accused is a Muslim. However, the accused did not commit the offence on behalf of Islam or Muslims.
Unfortunately, a Vanguard Newspaper Correspondent, Efe Onodjae, who reported the case, found a way to use this case to insult the sensibilities of the entire Muslim community in Nigeria.
Why did Vanguard Newspaper attach the picture of UNILAG Central Mosque to the story of an accused rapist? Did he commit the offence in the mosque? Did he perpetrate the said crime on behalf of the Muslims?
I am still not getting it. What has the rape case got to do with UNILAG Central Mosque? Vanguard Newspaper should come clear on why they attached UNILAG Central Mosque picture to the rape case.
Personally, I will file an individual petition to the Nigerian Press Council (NPC), so as to seek redress and for Vanguard Newspaper to be sanctioned.
