According To Vanguard On Tuesday 20 January, 2026, Proceedings at the Oyo State High Court sitting at Ring Road, Ibadan, were abruptly brought to a halt on Tuesday following the sudden collapse of a former Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Alhaji Mukaila Lamidi, popularly known as Auxiliary, inside the courtroom.

The incident occurred during the hearing of a criminal matter marked Suit No: I/74c/2024, The State vs. Mukaila Lamidi (Auxiliary). The defendant was reportedly seated calmly in the dock, awaiting the call of his case, when he suddenly slumped, throwing the courtroom into confusion and panic.
Eyewitnesses said the unexpected development caused tension among lawyers, court officials, litigants and other observers present, as proceedings were immediately suspended to attend to the situation. Court officials swiftly moved to his aid, while security personnel helped to clear space around him to allow for urgent intervention.
Although the exact cause of the collapse was not immediately known, sources within the court said Auxiliary appeared visibly weak moments before the incident. Efforts were quickly made to stabilise him, and he was later assisted out of the courtroom for further medical attention. The presiding judge was forced to adjourn the matter temporarily as a result of the development.
The sudden halt in proceedings drew reactions from those present, many of whom expressed concern over the health condition of the defendant. Some observers described the scene as tense, noting that the atmosphere in the courtroom changed instantly from routine legal proceedings to emergency response.
Auxiliary, a controversial figure in Oyo State transport sector, is standing trial over criminal allegations brought against him by the state. The case has attracted significant public interest due to his past influence within the NURTW and his involvement in various political and transport related disputes.
