The album starts with ‘Ashnytised’, an introduction by Singer and actress Ashionye who introduces Ashny as the new Ashionye. It is a rich but soft and succinct description of the Ashny brand and an invitation to enjoy her music. It builds up the much needed interest and creates curiosity whilst passing off the music torch from one generation to the next. The delivery is flawless and beautiful to the ears.
This is followed by the prayerful ballad ‘S’omi’ featuring veteran diva of soul music Yinka Davies. This song is a powerful mellow morning tune that creeps into one’s soul and a sublime way of reaching out to God for his grace and mercy every day.
‘Shekere’ is track 3. This is a groovy mid tempo song with rich percussions and an invitation to celebrate the fullness of life. It encourages one to let go of life’s troubles and enjoy the blessings of the moment. This is an Afrocentric tune that carries the Africano vibe and energy and is delivered with powerful vocals and pitches that touch the soul of the listener. It employs a call and response pattern that immediately invites and encourages one to get to the dance floor and flow with the rhythm.
‘Strong woman’ is track 4. This is the major driver of the theme of the album. It rides on an ethnic groove akin to highlife fused with pop elements. This song preaches the value of women as formidable partners in building a solid home. It cautions against seeing women as tools but strong allies that can always provide strength and support to a man in his time of weakness.
Track 5 is ‘Who be man?’ featuring the amiable Ibru Sisters Gloria and Elvina who play the role of older sisters transferring knowledge to their younger friend. Ashny probes the question and gets great enlightenment about the place of a man in life as a whole. The function and duties of a man as a custodian, leader, lover and image of authority as ordained by God and the need to work with the understanding of his role. The track leaves an open ended question on why men act the way they do however Gloria encourages Ashny to trust in her own man. This sound is best described as Hi-soul (A fusion of Highlife and soul)
Track 6 is ‘Kadara’. An ethnic groove featuring the Queen of Waka music, Salawa Abeni. This song brings out all the flavour of fuji, juju, highlife and ibile gbedu combined. Ashny speaks to her destiny and how God is in charge of her life and it’s outcome. This fusion heavy on percussions also visits familiar tunes from Bongos Ikwe’s “What’s Gonna Be” and Sikiru Ayinde Barrister’s “Iwo ko lo da”
Track 7 ‘Okunrin Ana’ is an unexpected take on modern story telling. Ashny employs the art of spoken word in motion with melody and drama as she narrates an encounter with her EX. The story builds up with a face off between both as now married with their spouses meeting at a crossroads. Ashny comes to terms with a legit reason for the fallout and consolidates their friendship by showing kindness in the end.
Fe-Mi-nism as it is spelt but pronounced with the yoruba intonation of Fe mi(Love me) is track 8.Delivered by Cordelia Okpei, It is a play on the word Feminism and a self interpretation away from the exploited meaning of the word. It is here redefined to fit the Ashny ‘Femalepreneur’ narrative to preach love and understanding. This spoken word also serves as an introduction to the second half of the album which is more on the pop and youthful side.
Track 9 is ‘Fish’. A sensuous dancehall groove that engages and invites the listener to bounce along. This song is a dance delight and makes for good listening. Delivered with seductiveness, Ashny invites her lover to take control and fish for her emotionally and sexually. It allows for mental stimulation and vivid imagination.
‘Figo’ is track 10 and can be described as a street Bop. Ashny collaborates with the very eclectic Yellow girl and rapper Kidda to deliver a femme attack on the chauvinism displayed by the urban egocentric male who thinks money is all they need to get a girl. All three acts push back with a powerful stance of self awareness and financial stamina. They make it clear that the modern woman is not to be taken for a play tool and that she is solid enough to earn and stand on her own and will not be disrespected. Figo is street parlance that signifies money and is delivered with infusions of Hausa, Yoruba and Igbo language.
Sis to Sis is track 11. A very engaging advisory drama dialogue style encounter featuring Mooh. Ashny and friend go back on forth on the reasons why her relationship is hitting the rocks and offers advice on what should be done to avoid such mistakes. This track digs into modern relationship issues and the need for women to understand how men think differently from women and how to relate with them.
Track 12 ‘I Need A Guy’ sees a dramatic Ashny running through her imagination flirtatiously wishing and desiring for her man to be a different kind of interesting guy every day of the week. Her whims and caprices extend from the need of a Doctor, Tech Guy, Gym instructor etc however it all culminates in the realisation that this impossible wish can only be achieved through AI for there is no perfect guy.
Track 13 is ‘Men Are Dogs’. This is a very powerful rendition that begs the question and twists the cap on the catch phrase. Ashny attempts to redirect the rather derogatory term by asking women “which dog breed is your father?” whilst exploiting the good values of dogs as a good qualifier for men if indeed men are to be likened to dogs. Her arguement states if ladies do not like the term “Fear Women” then it is not appropriate to say “Men are scum” or “Men are dogs”. Versatile OAP and Actress Ermandha closes the track with nuggets of wisdom.
Track 14 is Ladies Night (Bridal Shower). This is a song to celebrate every woman getting married and enjoying her last night as a single lady. Ashny invites rappers Boomerang and Butafly to flesh up the track with some inspiring and encouraging lines to buttress the energy. This track takes a Trado drive hook fused with pop and hip hop. It culminates with a prayer for the bride to be by iconic soul musician Wunmi Obe
Track 15 is ‘Full Control’, a spoken word that appears like an addendum that culminates track 14 and advices every woman to take charge of her home and work hand in hand with her man to form a united front. As a man is the head of the family so is the woman the neck. Both need each other to take full control of the body. This is delivered by the world famous Nneka Isaac-Moses of Goge Africa fame.
Track 16 is ‘Lapato’. A fun vibe Amapiano driven tune. This shows Ashny’s dexterity and ability to blend her music with current trends. The song piques lovers to shoot their shots and not pretend about their intentions to love.
Track 17 ‘Mr Allen’ is inspired by Weird MC’s ‘Allen Avenue’. Ashny goes hard and follows the footprint laid by the legendary rap goddess and takes it to the next level with vivid clarity on the proliferation of prostitution and the destruction of modern society by the actions of politicians. The spread of this red light activity as it springs and sprouts further based on a crumbling society and how it affects everyone. She pleads with ladies to learn skills to survive the future so as to avoid becoming victims of the night. This song genre is quite undefined as it employs elements of Afrobeat, dancehall, hiphop and conscious soul.
