20 years after the death of renowned gospel musician, Roland Olubukola Olomola, popularly known as Baba Ara, the widow of the deceased, Mrs Idowu Olomola, has debunked the rumour of her husband’s involvement in illicit drugs, which was alleged to have led to his sudden death.
The widow stated that Baba Ara was never involved in drugs as it was rumoured while he was alive, but was a spiritual musician and a loving husband and father.
She revealed this last Thursday during a press conference organised, at E99 Event Centre, Oluyole, in celebration of the 20th anniversary of the demise of the gospel musician by the national fans club and the band members.
She further stated that though the late gospel musician died early, his music still lives globally. She also revealed that she had only received royalty for the works of her husband since 10 years ago, stating that his promoters complained that the internet had affected their operations.
According to her, the deceased was a devoted Christian who had the fear of God during his lifetime. “My husband died after a brief illness in a hospital and not from drugs,” she added.
According to the National President, Ara Fans Club, Mr Ezekiel Oyemomin, activities marking the celebration include a Service of Remembrance, which will be held at Celestial Church of Christ of Christ, Shagamu, on August 31, while a posthumous musical concert and launching of Ara Foundation will be held September 1, at Vogue Event Centre, Ebutte-Meta, Lagos State.
He noted that the event will also feature an endowment fund in promotion of the late Baba Ara’s music and as well for his family.
The late musician, who died at his prime age, on August 31, 2004, will be celebrated by families and his band at the anniversary.
