The 7 for 7 National Values Charter Campus Debate and Capacity Building Conference 2024 for the Northeast Zone was held on December 2, 2024, at ASUP Hall, Federal Polytechnic Bauchi, in Bauchi State.

 

The event attracted students from institutions across the region, showcasing their intellectual prowess in a highly competitive atmosphere.

 

The debate culminated in a thrilling contest between Gombe State Polytechnic, Bajoga, and Yobe State University, Damaturu. After an intense exchange of ideas, Gombe State Polytechnic clinched the top position with 466 points, narrowly edging out Yobe State University, which scored 445 points.

 

With this victory, Gombe State Polytechnic earned a spot in the national finals, where they will compete for the grand prize of N20 million naira. Additionally, they received N5 million naira as zonal winners, while Yobe State University, the runner-up, was awarded N2 million naira.

 

A key feature of the event was a capacity-building session facilitated by Muyiwa Fasakin of Strength Africa. The session focused on equipping participants with practical techniques for managing emotions and developing leadership skills essential for Nigeria’s progress. Fasakin emphasized the need for young leaders to become better citizens and contribute meaningfully to the National Identity Project (NIP).

 

At the close of the training, participants were awarded Citizen Values Brigade Certificates, recognizing their commitment to national values and leadership excellence. The conference left students inspired to embrace their roles as agents of positive change in society.
