The leadership of the Gateway Lens, a non political organization, has taken note of recent reports concerning the presence of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) operatives at the Oke Mosan office of the Governor. According to reliable sources, no fewer than 30 EFCC officials were at the premises to grill certain government functionaries regarding alleged shady revenue handling and significant financial misappropriation. This development, which we have consistently highlighted, confirms the deep-seated corruption within the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration led by Governor Dapo Abiodun.

Our organization, being a responsible and conscious civil society, is particularly alarmed by intelligence suggesting the government’s desperate attempts to divert the state’s resources to influence the upcoming bye-election in the Remo Federal Constituency. Rather than focusing on delivering good governance, the Abiodun-led administration appears more interested in stockpiling funds for reckless spending and vote-buying schemes to manipulate the will of the people.

We strongly condemn this flagrant misuse of public resources for a selfish political agenda. Since inception, the Dapo Abiodun-led government has shown a complete failure in providing essential public infrastructure, healthcare services, and quality education. Ogun State is not Governor Abiodun’s personal enterprise, and no amount of diverted funds will sway the voters of Remo Federal Constituency from their determination to elect a responsible and responsive representative on August 16th.

We urge the EFCC to be thorough and professional in its investigation. The presence of the anti-graft agency at Oke Mosan at this critical time is a clear indication that this administration’s hands are far from clean. We wish to call the attention of all stakeholders in the state to this development and encourage all men of good conscience to provide necessary assistance to the EFCC to ensure this investigation is pursued to its logical conclusion without fear or favour. Any government official, no matter how highly placed, found guilty of diverting public funds must be brought to justice and face the full weight of the law.

The integrity of our state must not be dragged through the mud by opportunists who view public service as a means for personal aggrandisement. Ogun State deserves transparent, accountable leaders who are genuinely committed to the welfare of the people. As an uncompromising civil society, our organization remains available to partner with relevant stakeholders in offering a credible platform that prioritises good governance over political greed of a few opportunists who sees our commonwealth as weapons against the innocent taxpayers of Ogun State.
