Lagos, Nigeria – September 20, 2025

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested the leader of a notorious criminal syndicate specializing in the vandalism of high-end vehicles across residential estates in Lagos. The suspect, identified as Jude Onouha, 46, was apprehended after an intensive investigation by police detectives.

According to a statement issued by DSP Babasayi B. Oluseyi, Deputy Police Public Relations Officer for the Lagos State Command, the syndicate had been operating under a sophisticated disguise, posing as security operatives in fake uniforms to infiltrate estates.

What made the group particularly deceptive was their use of a Mercedes-Benz car jack, skillfully modified to resemble a firearm. The fake weapon, along with uniforms branded with security insignias such as “Special Force,” allowed them to deceive estate security guards and gain unauthorized access.

Once inside these estates, the gang targeted exotic vehicles, including Toyota Hilux, Toyota Highlander, Lexus 650, Mercedes-Benz models, and other luxury SUVs. They systematically dismantled the vehicles, stealing expensive and essential components such as brainboxes, tapping glasses, wiring systems, side mirrors, and control units.

The arrest of Jude Onouha marks a major breakthrough for the Command, which had been tracking the gang following multiple reports of vehicle vandalism across various parts of Lagos.

The suspect has reportedly confessed to the crimes and is cooperating with investigators. Police authorities confirmed that efforts are underway to arrest the remaining members of the syndicate and recover stolen items.

Among the items recovered from Onouha were:

One Mercedes-Benz jack modified to resemble a firearm

One face cap bearing the inscription “Special Force”
