Nigerian philanthropist, business/Sports mogul, Chairman of Bet9ja / Proprietor, Remo Stars FC, Hon. Kunle Soname has stated that he will do more in area of youth and sports development and education.
This, he reiterated when he welcomed the Africa Students Football Union (ASFU) led by ASFU President, Professor Oluwaseun Omotayo, a Visiting Scholar School of Sports and Exercise Medicine University of Health and Allied Sciences Ho, Volta Region Ghana, to his football academy at Ikenne, Ogun State last Tuesday where he was inducted as ASFU Patron.
While speaking to the media after his investiture , Soname stated that the investiture would further spur him to do more for youths as well as the sporting environment.
“I feel privileged and honoured for two reasons: ASFU represent two things that are dear to my heart, which is education/sports and ASFU combines both into one, ” he said.
On what ASFU should expect from him, Soname explained that he would use his God – given intellect, contact and resources generally for the development of ASFU.
He added that his football academy teaches young kids how to play football while acquiring formal education and ensure that they are a- list athletes who can compete favourably wherever they find themselves.
When asked about corporate sponsorship for the academy, Soname said, “A yoruba adage says if you want to put something on your head, you must first lift it up by yourself. From there, people can help you so this is what we are doing by ourselves, we are very confident that when people see what we do generally, others would want to be part of it”.
Earlier on, Professor Omotayo, in his submission said, “I am excited to be here, because Soname a well- known sports and business mogul who is now a Patron of ASFU. He has started well as a Patron by writing off all our indebtedness and I thank him for that kind gesture.”
On the state of Sports development in Nigeria, Omotayo said,” I don’t want to talk about the past rather than to continue to talk to people who have the heart of Soname to please emulate him. What he is doing is called sustainable sports development.
