Talk about one of Nigeria’s most respected and prolific musician whose timeless songs continue to resonate generations then one name must surely come to mind.
His songs right from the 60’s reflected on topical issues in our society. ie Famine, inflation, Domestic issues, poverty, insecurity , corrupt social practices , etc* With his music he delighted many hearts and won several prestigious awards both home and abroad and brought global acclaim to Nigeria over the years.
Though he hails from Ogun State Chief Commander Ebenezer Obey Fabiyi MFR was born 83 years ago at Massey Street Hospital in Lagos.
His music which he calls the Miliki goes beyond mere entertainment, it captures many strata of human lives and it has become EVERGREEN given the importance it has assumed, not only in our history but also in the social cultural sector, educational and religious sector of our country.
Commander has been variously described as a teacher, a prophet, a moral figure, a philanthropist and philosopher.
His Love for music started when he was in primary school in Idogo, Ogun State. He formed the Royal Mambo Orchestra while in primary school. Later he received his tulelage under Fatai Rolling Dollars in Lagos. The power of composition was Learnt from Adeolu Akisanya a popular Highlife musician of blessed memory.
With over 660 songs in his repertoire one can easily say that this enigma has paid his dues.
