The Lagos Lagoon Water Carnival, an initiative of Mic-Idols Concert, is scheduled to take place in Lagos in December 2024.
The project’s unveiling ceremony took place on Friday, September 27, 2024, at the prestigious Watercress Hotel, Ikeja Lagos, and was attended by distinguished guests, including Mrs. Faith Ouosoro Okon of Sell Well Ltd, owners of Black Stallion energy drink, and Dr. Hashim Afifa of Danest Hotel & Suites.
At the event, Squadron Leader Francis Anammah effectively stood in for the designated Chairman.
At a media briefing held during the unveiling ceremony, Mic-Idols Concert CEO Mr. Olumuyiwa Adesanya, the mastermind behind the Lagos Lagoon Water Carnival project, highlighted the event’s potential to energize Lagos State’s socio-economic and trade landscape.
According to Adesanya, the event has secured notable support from corporate entities and organizations, with its primary goal being the enhancement of trade and commerce within and beyond the water transport sector, promising an experience that effectively combines business opportunities with entertainment.
Concerning attendance, tickets will be available for purchase, and the carnival will admit interested participants with a professional appearance and quality offerings, he noted.
Adesanya added that, the Lagos Lagoon Water Carnival is an extraordinary event that celebrates love, creativity, and community spirit, featuring “elemental displays of the Lagos water divisions with content performances that seek to bring unity that Lagos represents to life through the confluence of these great water bodies”.
The fun-filled party would be held on water using barges and boats, as well as on land with water transport available at different locations.
The carnival is expected to feature music performances and interactive activities designed to engage attendees of all ages.
The carnival aims not only to entertain but also to foster connections among participants, evoking the African spirit and avail a peep at the world through the lenses of Lagos.
In addition, Mr. Olusola Obasa, CEO of Media Perspective; the event organizer listed two main highlights of the grand event targeted to fully harness and celebrate the richness and diversity that Lagos offers. They include Queen Lagos, a pageantry that parades feminine qualities and attributes that embody the uniqueness of Lagos.
“The Queen Lagos beauty pageant will be distinct,’ Obasa noted, adding that, “it is a paradigm shift to express the beauty of Lagos from core Lagos’ qualities, beyond facial beauty”.
The pageant winner will be the face of ‘Save Our Waters Campaign’.
The other highpoint event at the carnival is the Best Of All Time (BOAT) awards ceremony.
BOAT awards, according to the organizers, is for personalities from various fields of endeavors who have made impacts in the Blue economy and the development of Lagos State. Notable Lagos achievers from both public and private sectors will be honoured with different BOAT award categories.
Also, companies and industry giants who have for years been playing a role in Lagos’ development, will be awarded, Obasa said.
Other officials took turns to speak at the gathering, raising hopes of exciting moments to be enjoyed during the carnival, which will be held annually with unique themes for each edition.
