Ojodu Abiodun, November 22, 2024 – In commemoration of International Men’s Day, Event Diary Lifestyle hosted a groundbreaking program aimed at empowering young boys, addressing gender stereotypes, and promoting mental health awareness. The event, which took place at Top Teezs Academy, Ojodu Abiodun, brought together community leaders, educators, stakeholders, and students to discuss the future of boys in society.
The initiative was spearheaded by Princess Adeola Shittu, founder of Event Diary Lifestyle and the Young Boys in School Initiative. In her opening remarks, Princess Shittu highlighted the importance of nurturing boys to become empathetic and responsible men. “We need to create opportunities that help boys break free from harmful stereotypes and embrace their full potential,” she said.
The event’s keynote speaker, ASP Adeboye David Olantawura, delivered a powerful speech on the theme “Building and Empowering Young Boys for the Future.” He emphasized the damaging effects of societal pressures that force boys to suppress their emotions, often resulting in mental health issues and substance abuse.
“Society’s narrative of telling boys to ‘be a man’ often leads to emotional suppression, which can be harmful. We must teach boys to express themselves and value respectful relationships to build an inclusive and equitable society,” Olantawura stated. He also urged educators, parents, and community leaders to provide mentorship, life skills training, and emotional support for boys.
The event featured several engaging sessions, including a career talk by Miss Glory Ike from Pop Cola, who encouraged boys to stay focused and avoid negative peer influences. Mrs. Bello, representing Highscope Schools, discussed career choices and wellness, while Mr. Alani emphasized the importance of mental health awareness among boys.
A highlight of the event was the puzzle game competition, which showcased the talents of participating schools. Nwabisi Ifeanyi of Top Teezs Academy emerged as the winner, while Adebayo John and Izuagba Best of Highscope Schools claimed second and third places, respectively. Israel Oluwadarasimi, also of Top Teezs Academy, secured fourth place. Winners received cash prizes, with Access Bank pledging to open accounts for them to encourage financial literacy and savings.
The event also included cultural performances, interactive sessions, and a friendly drinking competition sponsored by Mamuda Beverage, makers of Pop Cola. Stakeholders and sponsors, including Access Bank, Mutual Benefit Assurance Plc, and the Akin Ogunbiyi Foundation, contributed significantly to the event’s success.
Representatives of the participating schools praised the initiative. Mr. Alani Ibrahim Chimeze, Vice Principal of Top Teezs Academy, commended the organizers, saying, “Programs like this are essential for preparing boys to face future challenges and contribute positively to society.”
This celebration of International Men’s Day underscores the commitment of Event Diary Lifestyle to fostering gender equality, mental health awareness, and youth empowerment, ensuring that young boys have the tools and support they need to become future leaders.
