Fagbola Funmilayo Igbayilola, popularly known as King Funmi Igbayilola, is a Nigerian musician, entrepreneur, philanthropist, and community-minded woman whose life story is defined by resilience, determination, faith, creativity, and an unwavering desire to make a difference.
Born on November 8, 1980, in Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria, Funmi grew up in Ibadan. Her childhood was far from easy. She experienced a lack of opportunities and was maltreated while living with her mother’s family. These experiences exposed her to hardship at a young age and shaped the strong, independent woman she would later become.
Rather than allowing her difficult beginnings to determine her future, Funmi developed a deep sense of resilience. She learned early in life to keep pushing forward, even when she had little or no support system.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND :
Funmi began her early education at St. Paul Primary School, Yemetu, Ibadan.
She subsequently attended Bishop Onabanjo Secondary School, Bodija, Ibadan, between 1990 and 1991; St. Thomas’s Comprehensive High School, Akure, between 1992 and 1994; and Remo Secondary School, Ijebu-Igbo/Ishagamu, between 1994 and 1997.
She later obtained a National Diploma (ND) in Business Administration from The Polytechnic, Ibadan.
Although she did not receive formal musical training, Funmi’s musical development came through experience, dedication, performance, and an enduring love for music.
THE BEGINNING OF HER MUSICAL JOURNEY :
Funmi discovered her passion for music at an early age. At the age of 12, she began singing in the children’s church choir at St. Thomas Anglican Church, Isinkan, Akure.
Her love for music continued to grow, inspired in part by the music of Dr. Lanre Teriba (Atorise) and her personal love for music and performance.
Funmi eventually returned to Ibadan, where she began performing professionally in nightclubs. Her professional music journey began around 2010, marking the beginning of a serious commitment to building her identity and career as an entertainer.
Her music is deeply influenced by her love for God and her passion for Juju music. Rather than simply reproducing an existing sound, Funmi has developed a style she describes as her own—one that reflects her personality, creativity, experience, and musical identity.

A WOMAN OF RESILIENCE :

She describes her greatest challenge as having no support system and having to struggle alone.
Despite this, she continues to move forward.
Her story is not one of someone who claims to have already achieved everything she dreams of. Rather, it is the story of a woman who is still building, still believing, and still pushing.
She openly acknowledges that her biggest success story is still ahead of her. She continues to believe in God and in the possibility that one day the years of struggle will give way to a testimony of success.

HER VISION :
Funmi’s vision extends far beyond becoming a successful musician.
She wants to become a highly successful businesswoman with hit songs recognised across the globe, while remaining a woman known for good music, generosity, service, and philanthropy.
She wants her work to speak for her and hopes that, when people remember her, they will remember the great work she did, the people she helped, and the music she created.
Her personal brand is built around being classic, unique, and committed to good music.
HER MESSAGE :
Funmi’s message to women and anyone going through difficult times is simple:
Keep pushing. One day, everything will be fine.
This message reflects her own journey. She knows what it means to struggle without support, to face difficult circumstances, and to keep moving despite uncertainty.
