
The ancient city of Ibadan is set to witness a historic moment as the coronation of the new Olubadan draws near, with a week-long series of events officially unveiled by the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII). The festivities, spanning from Monday, September 22, 2025, to Friday, October 3, 2025, promise to blend tradition, culture, religion, and community spirit in celebration of the revered monarch.

Day 1 : Monday, September 22, 2025
The programme kicks off with a Special Inter-Religious Prayer Session at the Olubadan Palace, Oke Aremo, by 12 noon.
Day 2 : Tuesday, September 23, 2025
Attention shifts to the Coronation Cultural Fiesta scheduled for the Olubadan Stadium, Iyaganku, at 11 a.m. This event will showcase Ibadan’s rich heritage through music, dance, and cultural displays.
Day 3 : Wednesday, September 24, 2025
The academic community takes centre stage with the First Coronation Lecture, to be delivered by renowned scholar, Prof. Toyin Falola, at the International Conference Centre (ICC), University of Ibadan, by 11 a.m.
Day 4 : Thursday, September 25, 2025
Coinciding with the monarch’s birthday, the day begins with a Special Islamic Prayer Session at Ibadan House, Oke Aremo, at 11 a.m., followed by a Mega Praise and Worship Service at Ibadan Civic Centre by 2 p.m.
Day 5 : Friday, September 26, 2025
This is the Coronation Day Proper, beginning at 9 a.m. at Mapo Hall Arena, where the monarch will officially ascend the throne. A grand reception will follow at the Obafemi Awolowo (Liberty) Stadium, Ibadan, at 1 p.m.
Day 6 : Sunday, September 28, 2025
The day begins with a Thanksgiving Service at the Catholic Cathedral, Oke Padre, at 9 a.m., before an Ibadan Coronation Civic Reception at the International Conference Centre, UI, at 11 a.m.
Day 7 : Friday, October 3, 2025
The celebrations will round off with a Special Jumat Service at the Central Mosque, Ojaba, by 12 noon.
