The Warewa Council of Chiefs has debunked reports circulating in some quarters claiming that the High Court of Ogun State, Abeokuta Division, has delivered judgement in Suit No: AB/696/2023 concerning the stool of the Olu of Warewa in Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State.
In a press release issued by the council, the chiefs described the publications and announcements regarding the purported judgement as “false, baseless and misleading,” urging members of the public to disregard such claims.
The statement explained that the suit, filed as Rev. Ibikunle Oluwole Johnson & Others v. The Executive Governor of Ogun State, is still pending before the court, contrary to reports alleging that judgement had already been delivered.
According to the council, although the court earlier delivered an interlocutory ruling nullifying the installation of HRH Oba Hakeem Balogun as the Olu of Warewa, an appeal has already been filed against the ruling, alongside an application for stay of execution.
The council maintained that any attempt to enforce the ruling while the appeal remains pending before the court is unlawful.
The statement further noted that the 14th Defendant in the suit has fully complied with the court’s ruling since its delivery, describing the action as a demonstration of respect for the judiciary and confidence in the eventual outcome of the legal process.
The chiefs therefore appealed to residents and indigenes of Warewa to remain calm, law-abiding and peaceful while awaiting the final decisions of both the High Court and the Court of Appeal.
“The good people of Warewa are hereby enjoined to disregard the misleading publication and continue their lawful businesses peacefully,” the statement read.
The press release was signed by the Warewa Council of Chiefs.
