A viral video currently being circulated on the social media and other news reports about highly respected Khalifa Muhamadu Sanusi II in which he made frank and bold statements about Nigeria and its leadership, and the freedom of speech and responsibility of leaders to speak up against bad governance has been trending for days now.

This speech, which reverberated across the land at the time it was made has now been refurbished and pushed out to make it look as if the 14th Emir of Kano just made the speech now and in response to recent economic policies of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s government. This is strange, considering Emir Sanusi’s well-known position in support of these necessary, but painful reforms without which the nation’s long-term economic situation will be in jeopardy.

It is important to state emphatically that the said speech contained in that video was made on the occasion of a stage Play – Emir Sanusi: Truth in Time.

The Play which held on 7th August, 2022 at the Agip Recital Hall of the Muson Centre was in honour of the revered Khalifa Sanusi who took the stage to deliver a speech that is now being mischievously circulated in the press and across social media platforms.

It is rather unfortunate that the speech which was made in 2022 is being distorted and misconstrued by mischief makers purporting that it was against the present administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Khalifa Muhammad Sanusi did not and has not made any video or speech against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and any official of his administration for that matter.

The media is hereby advised to desist from portraying him as an enemy of the present government.

Facts they say are sacred and it is important that all news reports are verified from dependable sources before they are published.

The general public should also take note of mischievous persons whose stock in trade is to drag personalities into their ill perceived opinions about government and their officials.
