IBADAN  – The Chairman of Park Management System in Oyo State, Alhaji Mukaila Lamidi, popularly known as Auxiliary, has joined the state government on campaign of no-smoking and drinking at the newly commissioned bus terminals in Ibadan, the capital of the state.
Lamidi while briefing journalists at Ojoo Bus Terminal on Friday, Day 1 of the campaign aimed at orientating stakeholders on the usage of the terminals noted that a lot of funds had been expended to build the terminal, stressing that it must be properly maintained.

Daily Independent gathered that the campaign was part of Oyo State government’s efforts in transforming the transportation system and expanding the economy of the state.

The campaign was also aimed at ensuring that the newly commissioned bus terminals in Ojoo and Challenge areas of Ibadan metropolis are put into good use.

Lamidi also advised the intending users of the terminals most especially drivers and park managers to make sure their buses are in good shape.

He said, “Smoking is not good for our health. I’m much okay since I quit smoking hemp and drinking alcohol, and it’s over five years now that I have put an end to both smoking and drinking habit and nothing happened to me. Instead, I’m much okay, so I want to use this medium to tell you all that smoking of hemp is not good, it damages the liver and lungs; please stop it.

“When I was smoking I didn’t find it easy to observe Ramadan fasting, but since I quit this habit, I have been fasting and as I’m speaking here I’m also fasting, it’s not good,” Lamidi said.
“My advice for drivers are many. One is that smoking is not allowed here. Two, they should ensure that their buses are in good shape and form and three; the drivers must have a good manner of approach and communication skills. These are very important as this place would begin operations,” he added.

Speaking also at the event, the General Manager, Oyo State Road Traffic Management Agency (OYRTMA) who represented the Executive Chairman, Mogaji Akin Fagbemi, said the reason for the orientation is to enlighten the park managers, transporters and all the users of the terminals on the proper way to manage and use the terminals.

He said, “The reason for calling the transporters and users of this terminal together is to give them a kind of orientation for them to know how to make use of this place; for them to know how to conduct themselves especially during the operation hours of this place.”
