As political campaigns gather momentum ahead of the Osun State governorship election, media consultant and public affairs practitioner, Rahman Olayinka, has called on eligible voters across the state to resist inducements and cast their ballots based on competence, integrity, and the collective interest of the people.
Olayinka made the appeal while speaking on the importance of responsible civic participation, stressing that the future of Osun State rests largely on the decisions voters make at the polls.
According to him, elections present citizens with a unique opportunity to determine the direction of governance, making it imperative for every voter to exercise the franchise with wisdom and a clear understanding of the long-term implications of their choices.
“The power to shape the future of Osun lies in the hands of the electorate. This is not the time to be influenced by temporary incentives or partisan sentiments. Vote your conscience and choose leaders who have demonstrated capacity, credibility, and a genuine commitment to the development of our state,” he said.
Olayinka emphasized that good governance can only thrive when leaders emerge through the informed and independent decisions of the people, rather than through vote-buying, intimidation, or other undemocratic practices.
He urged residents to carefully assess the track records, character, and manifestos of candidates before making their choices, noting that leadership should be entrusted to individuals with proven competence and a sincere desire to serve the public.
The media consultant also appealed to political actors to conduct themselves peacefully throughout the electoral process, urging them to place the interests of Osun State above personal or political ambitions.
He further encouraged youths, women, and first-time voters to actively participate in the election, describing their involvement as critical to strengthening democracy and ensuring inclusive governance.
While expressing confidence in the electoral process, Olayinka called on all stakeholders, including electoral officials, security agencies, political parties, and civil society organizations, to uphold the principles of fairness, transparency, and accountability.
“As citizens, we owe ourselves and future generations the responsibility of making informed decisions. Let us reject every attempt to mortgage our future for momentary gains. Let us vote our conscience, protect our votes, and contribute to building the Osun State we all desire,” he added.
He concluded by urging the electorate to remain peaceful before, during, and after the election, expressing optimism that a credible and transparent electoral process would further deepen democratic governance and foster sustainable development in Osun State.
