OSOGBO — Ahead of the August 15 governorship election in Osun State, Lagos-based cleric Prophet Oladele Israel Ogundipe has condemned the recent surge of political violence and killings in Osogbo, Esa Oke, and neighboring communities.
Speaking with journalists in a telephone interview, the founder of Genesis Global parish expressed concern over the persistent unrest, becoming one of the few prominent religious figures to publicly address the growing tension in the state.
Prophet Ogundipe questioned the ethics of political actors and supporters who prioritize electoral victory over human life.
“Elections will come and go, but human life remains sacred,” he said. “Why should anyone resort to violence and bloodshed for political gain? This is not the first election in Osun State, nor will it be the last. No political ambition is worth the life of any citizen.”
Drawing from the biblical account of Cain and Abel, the cleric warned that those orchestrating or executing political violence will face divine accountability.
He emphasized that no individual has the authority to end a life and reminded political actors that everyone will ultimately account for their deeds.
Concluding his address, Ogundipe called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Inspector-General of Police, and security chiefs to step in immediately, rein in political thugs, and maintain order across the state ahead of the polls.
Reiterating Osun’s historical reputation as a peaceful state, the cleric offered prayers for national unity, stability, and the protection of citizens.
