After an 18-year absence from the Nigerian music scene, United Kingdom-based Nigerian inspirational and alternative artiste, Oluwashola Mamora, popularly known as PENTY, is set to revive his 2008 hit song, Aigbagbo Bila.
The song, which enjoyed considerable airplay on Nigerian radio and television at the time, is being re-recorded and has been released across major streaming platforms on September 4, 2026, which also marks the artiste’s birthday.
According to the artiste, Aigbagbo Bila was played repeatedly on Nigerian radio by presenters including Olabisi Ayaba, now based in the United States, and Soji Omotayo, who remains active in broadcasting.
He also recalled that his early career attracted television interviews as well as newspaper and magazine coverage.
However, PENTY said the momentum was abruptly disrupted after every master file and backup of the song was lost.
“No video was ever shot,” he said, explaining that the song emerged before the social media era.
As a result, Aigbagbo Bila survived largely through the memories of people who heard it, while PENTY himself remained away from the public eye for years.
During his absence, he said a rumour even circulated that he had died while on a prayer retreat.
Now, nearly two decades later, PENTY is returning with a completely re-recorded version of Aigbagbo Bila, which he describes not as a remix but as a “rebirth.”
The September 4 release will be followed by other singles, including Hustle, Eledumare, a collaboration involving three artistes, My Land (Nigeria) and Akunleyan, beginning from mid-October.
PENTY, who is signed to his own Diamond Projects and Records Company Limited, describes his music as faith-rooted, inspirational and alternative, blending Yoruba and English for Nigerian and diaspora audiences.
As part of his comeback strategy, the artiste has promised his numerous fans across the globe to watch out for more as he is ready to take the centre stage with his rebranded music in order to reconnect with audiences in Nigeria and abroad.
PENTY acknowledged that while his catalogue and personal story remain strong, his digital presence is coming out bigger now as he is about to take the bull by the horn.
For PENTY, the September 4 release represents more than the return of an old song—it marks the rebirth of a musical journey that appeared to have disappeared for almost two decades.
