ABEOKUTA, OGUN STATE — The Media Office of Hon. Abayomi Hunye, leading governorship aspirant under the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State, wishes to bring to the urgent attention of the Inspector-General of Police, the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), the Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the national leadership of the APC, and the general public, a sinister plot to compromise the personal security and safety of Hon. Abayomi Hunye.
Credible intelligence available to our campaign structure confirms that strong pressure is currently being mounted by the Office of the Special Adviser to the Ogun State Governor on Security, in active conjunction with the Office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), on state security agencies to immediately withdraw all security personnel attached to Hon. Abayomi Hunye.
This calculated attempt to strip Hon. Hunye of his legitimate security detail at a critical juncture in his political engagement represents a direct, dangerous threat to his life, his family, and members of his campaign organization.
We view this coordinated maneuver by certain high-handed state officials as a desperate, anti-democratic attempt to intimidate, silence, and physically jeopardize an aspirant whose rising political profile and commitment to democratic principles continue to resonate with the good people of Ogun State.
Politics must never be reduced to state-sponsored intimidation, political vendetta, or weaponized endangerment of human life.
The office of the Governor and its machinery exist to protect every citizen of Ogun State regardless of political alignment, not to strip opposition or competing intra-party figures of basic protection.
We categorically state as follows:
Direct Accountability: Should any harm, attempt on life, or breakdown of security occur around Hon. Abayomi Hunye, his family, or members of his campaign team, the political leadership of Ogun State, specifically the Office of the Special Adviser on Security and the Office of the SSG, will be held directly responsible by the public and law enforcement.
Urgent Intervention: We appeal to the Inspector-General of Police, the Chief of Army Staff, the Director-General of the DSS, and the State Commandant of the NSCDC, Ogun State Command, to resist political pressure from Ogun State officials and maintain or reinforce the security apparatus protecting Hon. Abayomi Hunye.
Unwavering Commitment: Hon. Abayomi Hunye remains unshakeable in his democratic resolve. No amount of intimidation, security withdrawal, or executive harassment will deter him from standing up for the constitutional rights of the people of Ogun State and pursuing his legitimate political aspirations.
We call on civil rights organizations, elder statesmen, political leaders across Nigeria, and the general public to take note of this developing threat to internal democracy and human safety in Ogun State.
