In politics, silence can be incompetence. In representation, invisibility is failure. And in the case of Hon. Seyi Lawal, many residents of Ikeja Constituency I believe they are witnessing both.

For a constituency that sits at the political and economic nerve centre of Lagos, what Ikeja has received in return from its Assembly representative is, to many, an embarrassing display of mediocrity packaged as service.

JAMB Forms as “Achievement” Is an Insult

At a time when serious legislators are securing full scholarships, foreign educational opportunities, grants, and sustainable empowerment for their constituents, Hon. Lawal’s defenders are pointing to the distribution of JAMB forms as evidence of performance.

That is not empowerment. That is tokenism.

Asking an educated, urban constituency like Ikeja to celebrate JAMB forms in 2026 is not only politically tone-deaf—it is an insult to the intelligence of the electorate.

 Boreholes Are Not Legacy Projects

Even more troubling is the apparent attempt to market portable water infrastructure as a landmark achievement.

In a metropolitan constituency like Ikeja, where the conversation should be around innovation, economic empowerment, youth employment, technology, education, and strategic urban development, reducing governance to borehole politics reflects a dangerous poverty of ideas.

A Representative of the Few, Not the Many

Growing dissatisfaction among constituents suggests a pattern of exclusion, with many alleging that access to constituency benefits is reserved for a privileged inner circle while the broader electorate remains ignored.

Representation cannot be selective. Public office is not a private club.

Employment Claims Without Evidence :

If jobs have indeed been facilitated through this office, then the people deserve names, numbers, and proof. Constituents are asking a straightforward question: Who has Hon. Lawal helped secure employment for?

Because on the streets of Ikeja, many say they see no evidence of such impact.

Three Years, No Motion, No Voice :

Most alarming is the persistent claim that for three years, Hon. Lawal has failed to move any significant motion on the floor of the House.

If true, then Ikeja Constituency I has not had an active legislator it has had a seat warmer.

 Ikeja Deserves Representation, Not Residency

The Lagos State House of Assembly is not a retirement lounge. It is not a place for political spectators. It is a chamber for lawmakers, advocates, and drivers of policy.

And many in Ikeja are beginning to ask whether Hon. Seyi Lawal understands that distinction.

2027 Is Watching :

As the next political cycle approaches, one reality becomes unavoidable: The people of Ikeja Constituency I may soon have to decide whether they want another term of excuses, symbolism, and invisibility or the kind of representation that matches the stature of their constituency.

Because if performance is the measure of leadership, then many believe Ikeja is being shortchanged.
